Living in New York means that I get to experience all that the seasons have to offer.long coatsare reserved for tundra days, waterproof rain jackets, zsweater veststo cover when temperatures drop. Living in this concrete jungle for almost three years has made me an expert at choosing the right outerwear, especially when winter temperatures are milder.
For those days, I go for fleece jackets: they are super comfortable, easy to put on and take off, and so light that I can practically ditch the thick coat at home. Unfortunately, the quality of some outdoor fleeces is not always given and prices can vary and range from550 $. What is worth money and what is not? We did the hard work for you, testing some of the most popular outdoor fleeces to finally come up with a list of brands that offer the best options.
The best fleece outdoor fabrics we tested:
outdoor voices
Available sizes:XS-3XL
For a weekend in Dallas, which fluctuated between 40 and 60 degrees in January, I brought my cousin Fleece from Outdoor Voices. Made from recycled wool and polyester, this sweatshirt kept me warm and toasty when temperatures dropped at night. As a petite girl, I always appreciate a cropped cut, and this sweatshirt has an elasticated waist that gives me shape (despite the slightly oversized cut). The hood protects my ears when it's windy and I can count on the zipper for extra warmth. Another notable feature is the kangaroo pockets; Holds my phone, wallet, keys, and lipstick when I'm out and about. It is now my go-to for travel adventures and city breaks.

Free People's Movement
Available sizes:XS-XL
On days when I'm daring, I reach for the Free People Movement Hit the Slopes Jacket. What draws me to this button-down fleece is the flower print design, which stands out in my sea of solid color jackets. While this particular design is out of stock in most sizes, there are nine other patterns to choose from. However, this jacket goes beyond its looks. It is very hot alone and when I combine it with a light coat I start to sweat profusely. Other notable features of this jacket: It has deep pockets for essentials and elasticated cuffs to keep you warm. So far I have taken this coat on outdoor walks and shopping and it holds up well in cold weather. Trust me, wind and cold can't hurt this jacket.

A North Face
Available sizes:XS-3XL
I've worn North Face coats since high school, but never tried fleece. After testing the Extreme Pile Full Zip Jacket for a month, I am impressed. Made from a blend of sherpa fleece and polyester, this jacket keeps me warm in temperatures as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The jacket is double lined with a Sherpa outer lining and a non-fleece inner lining, which multiplies the warmth. The jacket has three pockets in total: a chest pocket for smaller items (eg credit card or lipstick) and two side pockets large enough to keep your hands warm. Overall it is my most versatile jacket and can be worn for outdoor walking, hiking or running.

Available sizes:XS-XXL
Another North Face jacket, Future Fleece, is a lightweight, zip-up garment that supports my active lifestyle. Although it tends to be thinner than fleece jackets, I like to take this zip with me on runs, hikes, and to the indoor gym and can envision it for walking in the warmer months. The lightweight jacket is made from a blend of polyester and recycled polyester and features a full-length zip for easy on and off. It also features a zippered chest pocket large enough to store a credit card, keys, or other small items. When you have a cold, the top also goes into the clutch. If you're looking for an active outdoor fleece, I can't recommend the Future Fleece highly enough.

eddie bauer
Available sizes:XS-XXL, in three lengths
If a blanket and jacket had a baby, it would be Eddie Bauer's Fireside Plush Fleece. Although it's only lined, the fleece (made from 100% polyester) offers comfort and warmth from the moment you put it on. The best thing about this fleece is that it has a quarter zip to let warm air out in hot weather and cuffed sleeves. One aspect of this fleece is that the small ran on the long side, but there's nothing a flex won't fix.

collective friend
Available sizes:XXS-6XL
Known for their eco-friendly and size-conscious activewear, Girlfriend Collective goes beyond flattering leggings. The brand's fleece department is on point and I got to try out their Teddy Half-Zip Fleece. This style is made from jumbo 100% recycled plastic bottles, which cuts down on waste and keeps me comfortable. Yep, it gives off innovative teddy bear vibes. The highlight of this fleece are the two vertical zippers, both sharing the same pocket. The bag is huge and allows me to store all my essentials before heading out for a walk or run without fear of falling. The cuffed sleeves are also a nice touch and it doesn't feel like the sweater weighs my body down. Are dollar bills worth it? 100 percent.
